Brainstorming Exercise

INSTRUCTIONS:  
  • Divide students into two groups:  A & B
  • Instruct students to write down as many different examples of violence as possible and categorise them (American spelling:  categorize)
  • Regroup students into pairs consisting of one A student and one B student
  • Instruct students to compare notes

Violent acts against society in general

  • Fighting & destruction during protest rallies
  • Violence for a cause (bombs)  

  • Vandalism

  • Sabotage in order to harm society

Domestic violence and cruelty
  • Fighting between partners

Sexual violence and cruelty

Contact sports
  • Boxing, Wrestling, Kick Boxing, Karate, Judo, Rugby, Football, etc.

  • Cruelty during transportation of animals (long journeys without sitting, lack of food & drink, filthy conditions)

  • Cruelty towards pets

  • Cruelty towards wildlife (birds, fish, animals, reptiles, etc.)

  • Cruelty during culls (foot & mouth outbreaks, etc.)

  • Cruelty during hunting (fox, hare-coursing)  

Violence to others resulting from mental illness
